12 Canadians in Beius

12 volunteers from Canada works on HFH Beius worksite

Twelve volunteers from Canada came to help Habitat for Humanity Beius for 10 days from 26th July until 4th August. They came through Habitat for Humanity’s Global Village program, with it being the first time that they’ve been to Romania and in fact most of them didn’t know each other before they came either.

They worked for a week in Oradea on a project in partnership with Caminul Felix, where they insulated one home as well as installed the drywall and then they also laid a foundation for a new home. During the weekend they visited the Bears Caves in Chiscau, the wooden church in Bradet and other attractions in the Beius area. They then continued work on Monday in Beius, where the 12 volunteers along with future Habitat homeowners prepared another foundation and also worked on finishing some homes which will soon be ready to move into.

The team leader, Kim Penzhorn, is for the third time in Beius and this being the second time this year. Just a few weeks ago, Kim was here leading the Canadian Youth Global Village team with the support of Habitat for Humanity Durham, Canada. This team worked together with the team from the International School of Stuttgart, Germany to help the Orosz and Vesa families to have decent homes.

“I am very excited about this experience that I will always keep in my heart. People here are wonderful, very welcoming, open and good hosts. The food is great, tasty and delicious. For sure I will definitely repeat this experience,” said Dane, one of the volunteers.
