Volunteers from Bilkent, Turkey, work on HFH Beius worksite.

Alina_Mihalca_si_Vasile_Dana_P4290063This week 15 volunteers from a famous school in Turkey, Bilkent, works as volunteers in Beius. The teenagers chose to come into voluntary programs that the institution has in the curriculum.

On Monday, 15 volunteers, two teachers and 13 students, have joined Habitat to assist in the completion of housing for the poor families from Beius. Volunteers from Bilkent school came for the fourth year in Beius participating in volunteer projects run by Habitat for Humanity Beius. Young people have choice to do this from a various voluntary actions proposed in the curriculum and wanted to participate as volunteers on the Habitat site.

“The teenagers who participate in our volunteer projects learn several things that will help them in life. So they learn to appreciate what they have at home, learn how important is the teamwork, learn that no matter the nationality, religion or social level when you want to help another human been.”- said Kivanc Aker, Turkish school teacher and one of volunteer coordinator of the group.

Voluntarii_Bilkent_P4260009Students at Bilkent come as volunteers to Beius for the first time in 2007 to build housing for poor families. So far about 50 volunteers from this school have helped build homes for needy families. The house where the Turkey’s volunteers work now was started to be build in autumn by other volunteers, all students at the famous Le Rosey school in Switzerland. But not only students from other countries have worked as volunteers on Habitat for Humanity sites Beius. The Romanian schools such as Technical College “Ioan Ciordaş” of Beius, Technical College “Transilvania” in Oradea Oradea, Arts High School, Eastern European Bible College from Oradea etc have also participate with volunteers in Habitat for Humanity Beius programs.

“I am deeply moved to see these young volunteers working with me at my home that I dream from a lifetime. I will teach my children to be like this wonderful kids and I hope they will help at any time other people, as these young people have come all the way to help us build a house.” says Alina Mihalcea, a single mother with two children.

Volunteers worked on painting the walls, the installation of eaves, floor insulation and flooring installation. Their work will be crowned Thursday when the dedication ceremony will take place.
