Help a family in need

Habitat together with Ciresarii build a house for a family in need!

Thirty volunteers from the Beius and Oradea area raised another house to roof level during Holy week for a needy family from Capalna Vladimir-Pustan-voluntar-P4110163

After last week when Habitat for Humanity Beius together with volunteers from Romania, Germany and Northern Ireland built 3 studio apartments for youth who grew up in adoptive families, on Monday, Habitat started work on a new Easter House.  The house will be built exclusively by Romanian volunteers in Capalna. The first people who responded to the invitation to volunteer are members of Ciresarii, who worked for two days in raising the house and also participated financially to building it.

Together with Habitat Beius and Ciresarii, regardless of religion, I learnt that fasting during Holy Week is more efficient if we also put our ‘shoulder’ into the work. This Holy Week is the start of collaboration in benefit of the needy. You’ll hear from us again. By this evening, we’ll also have the roof on the house.” said Pastor Vladimir Pustan, project volunteer and founding member of Habitat for Humanity Beius.

The house beneficiaries are some poor people from Capalna. During the last few years, they have permanently lived in fear of their old home falling in on Poza-de-grup-Habitat-Ciresarii-P4110023them and their 3 children. After the abundant rains in 2005, year on year their home started deteriorating much more rapidly due to their house not having a foundation and being built 50 years ago from mud bricks. As such, the house now has large cracks in it which have affected the resistance of the structure. Hearing about their problem, Habitat jumped to help them and organized a Christmas fundraising campaign. Once winter had passed and the ground unfroze, the foundation was poured and the house is now being raised.

„Thirteen years ago, as part of the Eclipse Build, Ambassador Rosapepe when asked by a journalist what he was doing on a Habitat worksite, gave this response: Come to Beius and see what Americans and Romanians can do together! Today in Capalna we can firmly say that we’ve progressed enormously. I invite you to come to Capalna and see what Romanians can do together with Romanians!” said Adrian Ciorna, founder of Habitat for Humanity Beius.

Mircea Jurcan the director of Habitat Beius and also three of the founding members of the association: Adrian Ciorna, Vladimir Pustan and Marcel Coroiu, worked alongside the volunteers. Excitement, wonder and joy could be read on the faces of the beneficiaries Ioan and Catrina who had never in their lives had some many people in their yard. They worked like ants shoulder to shoulder with the other volunteers.
