Orosz Family
Roland was born in Beius and he has a sister and a brother, both of whom are married. Being a hardworking person, he’s been working since he finished school. He lived together with his family in an apartment with two rooms in a block in Beius
Flavia is from Livada Beiusului, a village located 5km from Beius, where she lived together with her younger brother, parents and grandfather in a house. After she got married with Roland, they moved to his parents’ apartment in Beius where their child has grown up.
„We are 7 people in an apartment with two rooms and it’s really hard. We don’t have space, we don’t have privacy and we don’t have a place for Larisa” says Flavia.
In the larger room in the apartment, stay Roland’s parents who sleep in a bed, then Flavia sleeps in a bed with Larisa and then Roland sleeps on the floor on a matress. Roland’s brother and wife sleep in the other room, which is much smaller. It’s such a small space in the aparment that you can only just move around and things need to be rearranged each evening so that there’s room for Roland to put down his mattress on the floor.
„We’ve been waiting 3 years to obtain a Habitat home because since our dughter was born, we’ve put in an application. We’re now extremely happy that we’ve been selected” says Roland.

Ioana Vesa’s story
Ioana was born in Beius and she also has an older brother, Lucian who has a family and has his own home. Ioana grew up and went to a school in Stei, a town located 20km from Beius. After finishing school she was hired as an operator at European Food, a large producer of food in the area. In 1999, she got married to Alin, and in 2000, their daughter was born. When their daughter was 3 years old, Alin moved to Spain to work, but after a time there were misunderstandings as Alin did not want to return to Romania and Ioana didn’t want to move with their daughter to Spain. As a result, they divorced, split their belongings between them and sold the studio flat in which they had been living for many years. Ioana moved with her daughter into rental accommodation in Beius and was determined to have a fresh start although it was very hard.
“I tried to get a credit from the bank to put alongside monies that I obtained from our divorce, but because my salary was too small, my application was rejected, as the amount the bank was offering wasn’t even enough for a studio flat” said Ioana.
After so many problems during her life, now finding out that she was selected in the Habitat program, Ioana feels that at last she has been able to achieve something in life, other than Alina, her daughter. She’s sure that now she will rebuild her life and the future will have better moments.
“I can’t sleep at night because I often I imagine how good it will be to have my own house. I know how happy Alina is since she found out the news. I want to thank the volunteers for the effort which they are making to come from so far away to help me to obtain a house for my daughter and I!” says Ioana.
