The first international volunteer team
The first international volunteer team hosted by Habitat Beius in 2011 arrived on 27th March. The team which was made up of 7 students and 2 teachers from Bilkent University, Turkey. The students were happy as they met Gheorghe Hagi (the Romanian international football star) who travelled with them in the same plane from Turkey and they told him about what they were doing and had their photos taken with him.
Volunteers from the school have been coming to Beius for many years to help families in need of a decent place to live. This year they worked at creating the reinforcements for the Easter House foundation as well as making and raising the walls, mounting the thermal insulation, raising the roof trusses and tiling the Bogdan family’s new home. Beneficiary families worked alongside the volunteers as well as Habitat specialists who coordinated the work.
Fun and goodwill were definitely not missing as the volunteers participated in various things including a traditional evening where they tasted foods and listened to music and even had the chance dance to the music from the Bihor area. Even though the majority of the volunteers were very young, their work was extremely important for Habitat and for the families who current don’t live in a decent home.
Thank you Bilkent!
