American Volunteers on site in Oradea
The first foreign volunteers to work on a Habitat for Humanity Beius worksite this year are 11 Americans who worked diligently to help a Rroma family in need. The volunteers arrived Sunday night, the 24th of May, and were already on site by the crack of dawn the next day. In just one week, the raised a Habitat duplex (for two families) alongside rroma volunteers and some future Habitat partner families. The volunteers also paid their own way to come to Romania from the states, including travel, food and accommodations, as well as left a donation for future construction materials.
The volunteers didn’t know one another before arriving in Oradea, being separately recruited by the “Global Village” program of Habitat for Humanity International. Despite this, the all worked beautifully as a team and managed to raise the walls of the home by mid day. Even though they spoke in three different languages, Romanian, English and Hungarian, on the construction site, the volunteers and the partner families were able to do an excellent job!
