1999 – Eclipse Build ’99
In August of 1999, Habitat for Humanity Beius hosted the largest Habitat event to date in Europe. Centered on a full solar eclipse, the nine-day Eclipse Build involved hundreds of international and Romanian volunteers in the construction of 10 homes. These ten homes, from the foundation to the handing over of the keys, were raised, in a european premier, in such a short period of time. Since that time, homes have been constructed from a wood frame design rather than that previously done from concrete blocks. The US Ambassador from Bucharest was a guest as well as a ‘special’ construction volunteer.
