2010: A year full of successes for Habitat
After 14 years since its inception, HFH Beius can be proud of helping over 1000 people in more than 250 projects all around Bihor county. From year to year, the Beius charity supports more families in need to live in decent shelter and develops new, pioneering, innovative programs.
2010 meant a year with lots of work, the signing of important partnerships and the host of the largest Habitat event in Europe, Big Build 2010. It was an excellent year, full of challenges, but with many successes. More than 1000 people have a roof of their heads because of our effort and the efforts of our partners, sponsors and volunteers.
The year started with the 11th edition of the Easter House event, which has become a tradition, and this year was made possible with the financial support and volunteers from Provident Financial. Then there was a partnership signed with the Foundation Caminul Felix for the construction of 80 homes for young families who themselves did not have contact with their families while growing up. Already the first four homes are raised. Their construction was possible largely due to Lafarge Romania which offered the cement for the foundations as well as volunteers from Celestica, Whirlpool and from all around the work who not only worked on site but donated financially as well. At the same time, the Oradea city hall through the Oradea Real Estate Administration, has put a piece of land at our disposition where many more Habitat homes will be built over the coming years. Also in the high summer, more employees from Europharm, left their cool offices and confronted the extremely hot summer days to build homes for the needy.
“The work on Habitat’s worksite made a mark on me and made me determined to get involved and help the least lucky and so I’ve returned now together with my collegues to help these youth. To see the tears of joy in these people’s eyes who have had very difficult lives and have only known sadness, moves you profoundly and it makes you think about how lucky and how you blessed you are with everything that you have,” said one of the volunteers from Celestica.
At the start of October, we hosted 200 volunteers with the majority being from Northern Ireland, who build 12 homes in just 5 days during the event Big Build 2010. The event was also made possible with thanks to support of numerous sponsors: Vodafone Romania Foundation, Lafarge, Adeplast, Saint Gobain Glass, Candore, Total Digital, iConsult and with promotion through media partners Crişana, Magic FM, Zile şi Nopţi. The Big Build event had only just finished, when it was followed by the outfitting of the most modern school medical center built in partnership with the Beius town hall as part of the national program of Rompetrol “Together for everyone”.
