american international school of salzburgBetween the 22nd and 30th October, Habitat for Humanity Beius is being supported by special volunteers, young people aged between 16 and 18 (along with their teachers) who attend two of the most important European schools: Le Rosey Institute in Switzerland and the American International School of Salzburg in Austria.. The students chose to come through their school program CAS (Creativity, Action, Service) which is necessary to obtain the internationally recognized high school diploma. The purpose of CAS is that young people learn from practical experience how to be active in the community and how to help those around them.

The collaboration between Habitat for Humanity Beius and Le Rosey Institute dates from 2002 and the first volunteers from the American International School of Salzburg came to Romania in 2012. In these two schools, volunteering is of major importance for youth development which is why hundreds of students are annually involved in humanitarian or volunteering activities organized by the school or together with non-profit organizations.

“I am very enthusiastic about what is happening here. For me it is a great feeling to see how young people throughout Europe work together for a common good. I’m glad I chose Habitat for Humanity because I learn something really useful here and at the same time I help someone who really needs support. I will definitely recommend my colleagues to come to build houses in Beiuş next year,” said Konstantin, a student at Le Rosey Institute, originally from Bulgaria.

The first to arrive in the country are volunteers from the American International School of Salzburg who will work on the project “Caminul Habitat”, a partnership between and Caminul Felix in Oradea. From Thursday to Saturday, they will raise the roof of a house and following on between 26th and 30th October colleagues from Le Rosey Institute will finish the house of a needy family in Rosia and will raise the roof of a another house for a family of modest means in the locality, Poienii de Jos.

As usual, the experience of young people in Romania will not be limited only to building houses, as they will also participate in other activities. As such, they will enjoy a Romanian traditional evening where they will see a show of dances and songs from Bihor and they will also taste dishes specific to the area. In addition, they will also visit places of interest such as Baile Felix, 1 Mai, Oradea and the Bear Caves.
