2002 – Casa Noastra (Our Home) – NEFA
In Spring 2002, HFH Beius started work on its most ambitious project to date: 25 homes within the attic space and by renovation of the top floor of a block of flats (which under communist times, housed single individuals). Ten of those who were selected to be Habitat partner homeowners, grew up in an orphanage and until now didn’t have their own home. This was made possible due to the accessibility of this project, which is unique in the area of Habitat for Humanity Europe and Central Asia.
2002 – Easter Renovation – The Baruta House
Two rooms with mud floors in place of wooden flooring or carpets, a chimney that was in need of being demolished, no running water – this was the condition of the house before renovation. Five rooms with a decent floor, a new roof, a good solid chimney, running water in the house – all after two month of volunteering. You can read more about the eight Baruta family members and their experience with Habitat for Humanity Beius.
2002 – HFH International Board of Directors in Beius
Members of Habitat for Humanity International’s board of directors were in Beius in the Spring of 2002 to find out more about the pioneering project in the area of HFH Europe known as Casa Noastra (Our Home). During the two days in Beius, they talked with families who live in Habitat homes, the volunteered on the worksite, they met local HFH staff and with volunteers who serve on the HFH Beius board of directors. They were very appreciative of the hospitality which they received.
