15 volunteers from Germany build a house in just 5 days

This week they are speaking German in the Pojoca family’s yard, a poor family from Bunteşti!

A team of 15 volunteers from Germany arrived on Monday morning in Bunteşti to help a family who live in poor conditions, to fulfill their dream of having a decent, liveable and healthy house. The Germans are determined that in just five days, from Monday to Friday, to build a home for the Pojoca family. In the last three years the Germans have supported several Bihor families to break the cycle of poverty housing and have a home in which to raise their children in safety.

“I had an excellent experience when I came to volunteer for the first time in Romania and I wanted to share it with others. So, this year, along with four other volunteers who participated in the with me, we formed this team and we’re determined to face the challenge of building this house in just five days!” said Phil Peters, the volunteer team leader.

On Tuesday, the team of volunteers has already raised the house walls, the roof trusses were put in position and they are working busily with a typical Germanic rigor. At this rate, the house might even be completed ahead of target of Friday, 1st May.

The beneficiaries of the house are the five members of the Pojoca family, a family who live in difficult conditions in an old wooden house inherited from grandparents, stuck together with adobe. The house is lacking lots, from the fact that they don’t have running water or a toilet in the house, to the fear of the rain or cold, because the old windows and roof are weakened. Also the insufficient space in which these people live has led them to seek the support Habitat for Humanity Beius.

“Even now, when I see with my own eyes how the house is being raised, I can’t believe it’s true.  It’s like living a beautiful dream and I’m afraid to not wake up!” says Maria Pojoca, the house beneficiary.

The Pojoca family will receive the house keys as part of the house dedication which will take place on Friday 1st May 2015, starting at 3pm in Bunteşti.
